Each year on Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, children (and adults) bring their Baby Jesus figures from the crib at their homes to St. Peter’s Square where the Pope will bless both the people and the figurines during the Angelus. This is our celebration too on this Sunday morning during Mass when we bless the Baby Jesus figure from your crib. The crib reminds us that from this ordinary place came the most extraordinary grace and so too that can be our experience in life.

We wish everyone well whether heading back to the same school or starting out in a new one. God of wisdom and might, we praise you for the wonder of our being, for mind, body and spirit. Be with our children as they begin a new school year. Bless them and their teachers and staff. Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow; wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding; and peace and zeal to their hearts. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
